Safely Home

We arrived home safely at 10:30pm on Sunday night. It was a great trip - thank you for your prayers!

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

Our journey today began with an almost full moon to the west and the mountains of Honduras to the south - God has created such beautiful things for us to enjoy. 

After a bit of an adventure with our bus, we started off to the community we would be ministering to today. The bus ride was about an hour…and then the real journey began. We walked up the hillside, through the Honduran jungle on a dirt road that was unsuitable for any type of vehicle, crossing a stream five or six times (yes, we got wet feet), carrying all our personal supplies, medical equipment, lunch and drinks for an hour and twenty minutes in the blazing sun! Eventually we arrived at a wooden church building that was to be our medical/dental clinic for the day. We quickly setup our stations and got to work on the long line of people that were already waiting for us. First of all people were registered, and then moved into pre-clinic/triage where they were assessed and then onto an evangelism area where they heard about Jesus and were prayed for. Between all the nurses, the two dentists and the three doctors over a hundred people from the surrounding villages were treated and got to hear the gospel.

The real reason for our visit is relationships. We were reminded of that today when we had to say goodbye to a good friend called Johnny, who we met two years ago. We told him we loved him, will pray for him and Lord willing, we will see him again next year. Those brothers and sisters in Christ is why we are here.

I have seen God working in the hearts of people all week and today was no exception. After we arrived at our destination and were unloading supplies from the bus I noticed several cowboys with their horses, and one came riding up near me. We introduced ourselves and then he allowed me to mount his horse. We took pictures and then I simply asked him if he knew the Lord Jesus. He said no, I asked him if he would – his immediate response was yes - amazing! My key observation today was of our team. Our team is now the New Hope Church team and our Honduras Friends team. We took about 15 of them to the clinic today – or rather they took us as part of their ministry! It reminded me of Romans 12:4-6

For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us….

We are all different, but one body. I observed the team carrying many heavy things today, up the mountain and across streams with the purpose and desire to serve our LORD together. 

We have many new friends after today and many people received valuable health and dental care that they would otherwise never have had access to, but most important we have new brothers and sisters that are now part of God’s growing kingdom here in La Ceiba.
